What these sessions are about

Click the links below to listen to a recording of the messages that were spoken at our first session on Sunday, November 8th, 2009.

Speaker #1: David Booth Speaker #2: Marvin Derksen

Simply put, it’s people getting together to hear good news – wonderful news – about God’s way of saving people. Saved from what? Who needs saving? When, where, and how? These sessions provide you with straightforward answers based on the central theme of the sacred writings—the Bible.

Lasting one hour, an evening session will typically include messages from two speakers in a lecture format. Several songs may be sung as they relate to these messages. There are no requests for money and no requests for public interaction as this is not a fund raiser or a membership drive.

The people who convene these meetings – and who may have passed along an invitation to you – are deeply committed to sharing the Bible message with others. They themselves have found the message to be life changing. So if you’ve received an invitation to attend, it’s because they care. And more importantly, God cares. Invest an hour of your time with an open mind and we’re confident that it will be time well spent.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

The speakers at these sessions

David Booth

David was saved as a boy of eight. After high school, he went to the Ontario forestry college and became a conservation officer. He was posted to the Loring, Ontario area, where he met his wife-to-be, Nancy. A few years after their marriage in 1971, David and Nancy felt the Lord was calling them to the mission field, and so they left for Costa Rica in 1978, where spent 16 years preaching the gospel. In 1994, the iron curtain was lifted in Russia, and David and Nancy moved there to spread the gospel. They lived there for six years. David has had the privilege of preaching the gospel in 12 different countries. Their daughter Sabrina is currently serving the Lord in Russia. David's current ministry is preaching the gospel in Canada, the United States, Latin America, and Russia.

Marvin Derksen

Marvin was born and raised in Leamington, Ontario before enrolling at the University of Western Ontario at London. It was there that he was confronted with his need of salvation and of the great issue of his eternal future. Although religious, he knew that he was not ready to meet God. As he listened to the Gospel and carefully read the Bible, he became aware of his sin and of the judgement that was coming. He was both helpless and hopeless, and at that moment that he realized that the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God had died as a substitute for him on the cross. The great truth that "Christ died for the ungodly" became personal for him and in a moment, God saved him. March 6, 1971 stands out as the greatest day of his life. God's salvation experienced over 38 years ago has changed everything. The assurance and enjoyment of everlasting life is the greatest blessing that one can experience. But life has also been filled with many blessings including a Christian wife, three sons and the privilege of preaching the Gospel for many years in Newfoundland as well as in many places throughout North America. For the past 7 years, he and his wife Barbara have been living in the Cambridge-Kitchener area but have continued in their endeavours to make the changeless message of God's salvation known to all in this rapidly-changing world.
